Steam Railways
TALYLLYN RAILWAY & MUSEUM The railway was opened in 1865 and runs through delightful scenery from Tywyn to Nant Gwernol. In 1950 the railway was saved from closure by the Talyllyn Railway Preservation Society - the first organisation of its kind in the world.
FAIRBOURNE & BARMOUTH STEAM RAILWAY Originally laid in 1895 to transport building materials for the construction of Fairbourne village, the two and a half mile steam train has carried passengers between Fairbourne and Penrhyn Point where the ferry crosses to Barmouth for over 100 years.
CORRIS RAILWAY & MUSEUM The Corris railway was the first narrow gauge railway in Mid Wales. It was built in 1859 as a horse-hauled tramroad until steam arrived in 1878. The passenger service was recommenced in 2002.
BALA LAKE RAILWAY - Rheilffordd Llyn Tegin Enjoy the wildlife and picturesque views with a leisurely ride by narrow gauge steam train along the shores of Wales' largest lake.
VALE OF RHEIDOL RAILWAY The Vale of Rheidol railway was opened in 1902 to serve the lead mines, and transport timber and passengers to the Rheidol Valley. At Devil's Bridge there are the famous Mynach Falls, Jacob's Ladder and the Devil's Punchbowl. A great day out for the family.
SNOWDON MOUNTAIN RAILWAY Snowdon the highest mountain in England and Wales at over 3000ft. Why not travel all the way to the summit on the Snowdon Mountain Railway or if you feel like shedding a few pounds you can walk one of the three routes.
